The million dolar movie

Inspired by the current pixel advertising craze, two students at the International Film School in Wales are asking people to donate money to fund their first feature movie. In return, those who donate £3 or more will receive a screen credit as executive producer.
The students aim at raising a million dollars by involving thousands of sponsors. And while they are at it, they also hope to get in the book of Guinness World Records for the movie with the longest list of credits.

Win a conversation with coldplay

Skype is now running a brilliant little cross promotional marketing campaign called “Win a Conversation with Coldplay“. Apparently, you can leave a Skype voicemail message for Coldplay and the band will call whoever leaves their favourite message.

Click on the Skype Coldplay button to leave a message and your Skype Name. The band will have a listen and whoever leaves them the best or most interesting message will win a call with Coldplay over Skype.

Nokia recently launched its first video calling phone, the 6680, in New Zealand, driven by an interesting semi-serious strategy. “With the advent of video calling it’s harder to lie about where you are when you’re out having a good time drinking or seeing your mistress or whatever — so they put up backlit posters around nightspots that can be used as backgrounds when making a call. Now you can still claim to be at the gym or the supermarket, or working late at the office.”

As for the concept, there were already a number of big television ads, from Vodafone and Telecom, explaining what video calling is all about, so their idea was to announce the arrival of Nokia’s video calling in a different way and on a much smaller budget.
